ACTION ALERT: August Recess Packet
August 1, 2018
Dear AEO Members,
On Friday, July 27, Congress adjourned for a five-week recess. Your legislators will be back home in their districts and states to meet with constituents, like you, to share updates on their efforts in Washington, D.C. They are eager to learn about how these efforts are impacting you. Take advantage of this opportunity to continue AEO’s advocacy work by engaging with your Members of Congress.
Upon their return from recess in September, the deadline for FY19 funding will be fast approaching. AEO has been active on Capitol Hill, advocating for robust funding for entrepreneurial development and lending programs, but the work doesn’t stop there. This is a great opportunity for you to reinforce AEO’s funding priorities.
Entrepreneurship funding requires support from Republicans and Democrats alike. AEO is asking all of its members and supporters to meet with their Representatives and Senators and urge them to support small business programs.
One key program providing critical support to entrepreneurs, particularly in economically distressed areas, is the SBA PRIME program. The House of Representatives passed their appropriations legislation funding this program for FY2019 at the same level as FY2018 - $5 million. The Senate version, which was unanimously approved in committee, cut funding to the PRIME Program to $2.5 million. This bill now awaits a vote by the full Senate.
