House Republicans Seek to Delay Obamacare Employer Mandate – The House is making another run at weakening the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by targeting a handful of provisions for repeal or delay via legislation. The House Rules Committee is set to take up the Save American Workers Act (H.R. 3798), which would suspend from 2015 through 2018 the ACA’s employer mandate, which requires employers with 50 or more full-time employees to provide affordable health insurance or pay a fine. It also modifies the definition of full-time employees in Obamacare from one who averages 30 hours per week or more for the purposes of the mandate to cover employees working 40 hours per week. This bill is expected to move out of the Rules Committee and be voted on by the full house in the next week.

Tax Reform 2.0 Approved by House Ways & Means Committee – Tax Reform 2.0 passed its first hurdle this week after the House Ways & Means Committee voted to approve the package. Three bills were included in the 2.0 package: the Protecting Family and Small Business Tax Cuts Act of 2018, which would make the individual provisions in the 2017 tax law permanent; the Family Savings Act of 2018, which focuses on retirement plans; and the American Innovation Act of 2018, which is meant to spur innovation by allowing startup businesses to write off more of their costs.
